It’s been a while coming, but the PlayStation showcase gave us a fresh new glimpse of the all-new action-RPG set in the world of Granblue Fantasy, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, and a release window for later this year.
This anime-flavoured action-RPG showed off its visuals and a number of the series’ main characters including Gran, Vyrn, Lyria and Katalina as they went into battle against a host of enemies.
The original Granblue Fantasy released in Japan in 2014, starting off life as a social network mobile game. It then went on to spawn a highly enjoyable anime series in the shape of Granblue Fantasy The Animation and more recently Cygames joined up with Arc System Works to create the excellent Granblue Fantasy Versus, a 2D fighting game.
As fantasy settings go, Granblue Fantasy is one of the most evocative and engaging out there, mixing action and adventure with real heart and a light dose of humour. It helps that it all looks absolutely fantastic too. A new visit to this world can’t come soon enough.
We gave Granblue Fantasy Versus a rating of 7/10, with our very own Reuben saying, “Granblue Fantasy: Versus is an interesting game, both mechanically sound and simple with a diverse roster. Absolutely gorgeous to behold, and mostly pleasant to hear, this is the sort of fighting game esports was made for. It’s such a shame then that the single-player content doesn’t hit the mark, especially the often frustrating RPG Mode.”
Granblue Fantasy: Relink launches worldwide on PS5 this winter.
